Unions - What are they today?

Some interesting information I found out today on a particular Union.  First some background.  A new educational program has just been introduced to New York state high school students that came from the R.F. Kennedy Center and from NYSUT.  This program which is available to teachers of high school students is called "Speak Truth to Power" - most of which was written by Van Jones - we know who he is, he was the Czar that was quietly ushered out of the Obama White House when it was exposed he was a self-proclaimed communist and 9/11 Truther - no one from the media asked why this guy was there  - no questions on the vetting of him - no questions of the vetting of any of these Czars, but that is another story.

What’s interesting about this "program," is first off it asks the students this question, "who do you think is protecting you" and then sites quotations from the International Declaration of Human Rights as the standard, completely disregarding the law of the land, the Constitution of the US - I find that a bit offensive to be spewing to high school students, social justice propaganda.  It also asks, do you know who Van Jones is and then proceeds to tell them that he is an international human rights defender and that you should "understand the issue of police brutality within the US and Internationally."  My, my Mr. Jones has been busy since his late night departure from the White House.  Then, and this is where it really goes over the top, they speak to the brutality of our police in this nation and how they beat and kill people all the time.  It discusses web sites where you can go to see who they have beaten up lately.  "Speak Truth to Power" is a criminal program disparaging our country and our hard working law enforcement officers and saying they are all bad.  We can all agree there are bad people, but they exist in EVERY work place in EVERY position, from top down.  The bad ones need to go but please don't make the claim they are all bad.  But through the many web sites this program recommends the children visit, some go on to claim the “one bad apple” line is just a myth and rather the whole police brotherhood has systemic problems that is just bad for America - it should all go - hmmm?  As we all know, there are bad apples in all of life and the police protect us from those wormy pieces of fruit.  But if not our local municipal police that answer to their local community what could or should be put in its place?  Wait, wait - didn't Mr. Obama on the campaign trail talk about some type of federal civilian police force that is "as well funded as the military" - hmmm...interesting?

Mr. Jones' educational program also boldly tells the students that if the West had only listened to the communists and socialists of Europe prior to WWII we maybe wouldn't have had the nazis and fascist of Germany and Italy - hmmm, equating nazis and fascists to our police, while also telling us how good and knowledgeable the communists and socialists are - cool Van, a twofer.  What he also neglects to say or maybe doesn't understand (I doubt that) that the National Socialist Party was the Nazi Party.  Nazi is an acronym!  But anyway, the big question is why is this all being underwritten by the AFL-CIO, the police community's own UNION!!  Yes, they funded this new program for students.  Now police, that's a good use of your union dues isn't it.  Maybe you should start asking some questions of leadership?

Why would the AFL-CIO participate in a program that says awful things about the police, a group of American workers who are part of and suppose to be protected by that VERY SAME UNION?  This program has other direct links to organizations such as the Freedom Road Socialist Organization, Mostly Water, the Palestine SOLIDARITY Movement, the Colombia Action Network, and Students for a Democratic Society.  All organizations that hate the police and oppose the very concept of the society the police are empowered to protect.

It always seems to be some radicals standing behind, or in hiding behind, some legitimate organization as in this case the RF Kennedy Center and the NYSUT with either the AFL-CIO or SEIU somehow involved in the background and then out in front are the unsuspecting innocents that are suppose to be the public face that legitimizes the situation.  Look at Wisconsin, in that case the police, fire fighters and teachers are the ones being used.  Now I believe that most police, fire fighters and teachers don't have any clue that they are being used - probably 99% don't, but they are, we all are.

Check out MostlyWater.org one of the organizations linked with this new educational program - on their web site March 15th is Police Brutality Day - read about it - they look at this year 2011, as being the year of insurrection and marginalizing the police is just the start.  Maybe we should be talking to our police and thanking them for their service and let them know we appreciate them and but disagree with their union management.

In Wisconsin who is really behind the sit-in, who is providing the pre-printed signs, who is being used?

IS THERE A BIGGER END GAME THAT UNION LEADERSHIP IS HEADING TO?  MAYBE!

* UPDATE:  April 2011, the AFL-CIO and CA Teachers Union came out in support of convicted murderer/cop killer, Mumia Abu Jamel - isn't the AFL-CIO the Police's Union?
